Ep.13 Reality Sandwich: Keelung Harbor traces the overlooked history of Korean migration to Taiwan through the city of Keelung.

Guided by newspaper articles published nearly a century ago, the three-channel video work moves between archival fragments and contemporary images of Keelung Harbor, Peace Island, Aloha Hotel, and the everyday life of a Korean barber who moved to Taiwan in 1971.

Rather than presenting migration as a completed historical event, the work asks how histories of movement, labor, displacement, and belonging continue to inhabit places and lives in the present.

As Professor Yenfen of the Department of Sociology at National Taiwan University reflects:The history of Korean migration to Taiwan under Japanese rule and into the postwar period is a history every Taiwanese person ought to know… to understand how the system has long worked injustice upon some among us.”

Ep.13 Reality Sandwich: Keelung Harbor is part of the ongoing Reality Sandwich video series, a place-responsive project that explores how meaning emerges through encounters between people, places, memory, and lived experience.
